Lighting Designer - LALI
The Job: OPIA Collective is looking for a Lighting Designer to collaborate with OPIA Collective on LALI, written by Shadi Hamta and directed by Masha Kevinovna. We are looking for a Lighting Designer for our upcoming production of LALI at VAULT Festival and Touring Venue TBC. The Lighting Designer will be responsible for working alongside the Director to create and implement a striking and cohesive lighting design. LALI is written by British-Iranian playwright Shadi Hamta, and will be directed by Masha Kevinovna.
When Lali goes to a job interview to tutor the children of the affluent Bamford family, things take an unexpected turn.
After falling asleep in a wendy house in the family’s garden, she refuses to leave; preferring the insular, pretend realm of the house, over the grief that awaits her in the real world. Over the course of a week, the Bamfords are forced to look at themselves anew through the gaze of this new intruder, and Lali too must come to face what she has refused to acknowledge.
Responsibilities: working in collaboration with the Production Manager & Venue to deliver the lighting design in line with production deadlines, budget and director’s vision; coordinating the fit-up process in relation to placement/focusing of lights; attending production meetings; programming the lighting desk for the show, working in collaboration with the Assistant Director to ensure cues are logged on book; undertaking any relevant lighting fixes during Technical Rehearsals and Previews; and attending previews to make, receive and implement Lighting Design notes.
